The North Shore's iconic big-wave beach — winter swells from October to March can produce 30-50 foot faces, and the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational only runs when the bay tops 20 feet (rare; some years no event). Summer brings calm reef-protected swimming and the famous Waimea jump rock at the south end.
