About It's a Beach Day

It's a Beach Day answers one question for every beach on the Chesapeake Bay and Maryland Atlantic coast: is today a good day to go?

We do this by pulling live data from authoritative public sources — NOAA for tides and water temperature, the National Weather Service for forecasts and alerts, and the Maryland Department of the Environment for swim advisories — and combining it into a single beach-day score. Every beach gets its own page with a full conditions dashboard, tide chart, dog rules, parking, and amenities.

What we aren't

We aren't a travel blog, we aren't a chamber of commerce, we aren't a booking site. We don't write "10 Best Beaches" list-icles or accept payment to rank beaches. The only thing that determines where a beach shows up in our daily ranking is the live data.

How it's built

The site is a statically generated Astro site hosted on Cloudflare Pages, rebuilt on a scheduled cadence so conditions stay fresh. All data sources are public APIs. We don't store personal data. There is no newsletter signup pop-up. There is no cookie banner because we don't use cookies. This site is maintained by 137 & Co.

Coverage

Launch phase includes 53 beaches across the Chesapeake Bay and Maryland Atlantic coast. We'll expand deeper into the 123 official Chesapeake beaches, then to Delaware, Virginia, and the mid-Atlantic coast as the site grows.
